I am. At least, I’m pretty sure.

I live in Vermont, in the mountains, in the trees. I grew up here - I think I am 4th or 5th generation - but I took a long round trip to be where I am now. I went away to get educated and to earn and spend lots of money in a calculated pursuit of happiness. Wendell Berry once wrote that “rural children are raised for export.” I lived it. The result was predictable and I made the choice to change.

Today, I live on three acres which the legal system says I own. Trees and plants and animals around me. My work is about redesigning business so that we can work on solving the intractable and daunting problems of economic injustice, social inequity and environmental degradation in a profitable way. Sometimes I don’t think its possible, but most days I feel good that it is important work. And its a hell of a lot more important than engineering a few more points of yield for anonymous investors on Wall Street.

So I am learning to meditate, to quiet myself, to wake up. I love dogs and music and writing and nature. I am learning to recognize the things that grow around and I hope to be able to keep a garden alive and productive this summer. I am learning to be patient and compassionate. I am learning to turn my attention to flow and let go of outcomes. I am learning to see, understand and trust the deepest visions in my heart, to manifest.

I am frustrated with the pace of the task, with dukkha, with my anger and impatience and ignorance.

And so I keep seeking…
